Day 1: Italy

Ciao - that's a typical greeting in Italian

On my Bumble profile you'll find I like walks along the beach, ice-cream, tummy rubs and playing with my toys! I don't like baths and I REALLY don't like BIG dogs. They scare me, so I scare them first!

I like to travel so thought I would take a few trips from home. You can do this on your computer. Computers are super clever and know the answers to everything - even more than my Mum!

Today I'm in Italy, one of the most beautiful countries in the world and one of my favourite travel destinations! Italy is in Europe and shares a border with six other countries…France, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Vatican City and San Marino.

  • There are over 62 million people in Italy - that’s a lot of people eating pizza & pasta!
  • Have a look at the map of Italy - I think it looks like a high-heeled boot! Flip a map of New Zealand upside down and it looks like Italy! Go on check it out!
  • Football in Italy is a religion!!!... well not quite but they are very serious about their Football, a bit like us in New Zealand with Rugby! ~ Go the All Blacks!
  • Like New Zealand, Italy also has active volcanos. They have interesting names…Etna, Stromboli and Vesuvius!

My mum can erupt like Vesuvius sometimes especially if I empty the rubbish bin onto the floor!... OR walk through the kitchen with dirty feet! Oooops - it’s such a hard life being a Dog.

The capital of Italy is Rome. It is a wonderful place to learn about the Romans and ancient or old ruins!
New Word: Ruins [place that is really really old and has often fallen apart]

Do you know what the capital of New Zealand is? It’s Wellington… that’s where our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern works in a place called the Beehive! That’s a funny name, especially since Bee’s don’t live there!...but there are a few Busy Bees!

One of the coolest places is Venice, it’s like a city that floats on the water. It is built on Islands. They have a Carnival where people dress up in Costume. It’s like Halloween but the costumes are really pretty! People travel from all around the world to see Venice and the Carnival.

Another of my favourite city’s is Pisa…. Nooooo not Pizza, Pisa! This has a really cool Tower, but it is leaning on an angle… it is called the ‘Leaning Tower of Pisa’! It is really, really, really old! Find out why the Leaning Tower of Pisa doesn't fall over?

Italy is famous for soooooooo many things Art, Architecture, Fashion, Opera, Design, Food… yum Pizza, Pasta, Lasagna, Gelato and lots more...What is your favourite Italian food?

NEW WORD: Gelato
[Italian word for ice-cream]

Home-made Gelato- no ice-cream maker required!

Buon appetito [enjoy your meal in Italian]

Italy’s national animal is the grey wolf. Do you know the name of our national animal? It’s a Kiwi!... the Kiwi is a Bird… New Zealander’s are often called Kiwis and we have a fruit called the Kiwifruit!
